Concert Piece no. 5
Blazhevich, arr. Coy
Trombone and Band
Continuing my project of orchestrations, I have written an arrangement of Blazhevich's Concert Piece no. 5 (sometimes called the Concert Sketch no. 5) for concert band. This piece joins my Saint Saëns orchestrations in the Cherry Classics catalog and is available as both a PDF download and a printed score.
Blazhevich, who played principal trombone in the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra and taught at the Moscow Conservatoire, has written some of the most notable works for trombone in the repertoire including his Clef Studies, Concert Duets, and Sequences as well as 13 concertos. The Concert Piece no. 5 is a very popular early-advanced solo that often finds its way into solo competitions. This arrangement opens up possibilities for the work and allows it to be used in a concerto context.
The included solo part is identical to the one in the Satz edition and can be played with the traditional piano accompaniment as well as the wind ensemble parts.
